About The Own Goal:

The Own Goal is a one man site about New York soccer.

After launching this site with the intention of writing about “soccer” generally, I’ve opted to focus on the game in New York City.  Other writers are better equipped to cover soccer in Europe, South America and throughout the United States.  Many are better equipped to cover the soccer in New York.  I’ve realized the best approach is to focus on the game I love in the city I love, while leaving the rest alone.

Occasionally I’ll write about other topics – USA soccer or international tournaments – but the main objective is to write about New York soccer. The clubs, culture, history and growth of the game in the world’s greatest city.

I am not an expert.  I am not a journalist.  I’m not even a fan of any particular team, although the focus is primarily on NYCFC.  I am a fan of soccer in general, fascinated by the game and its development.  You may find my posts contradictory, repetitive or just flat out wrong.  That’s fine, please let me know –  my hope is that you’ll engage and join the conversation.  Please contact me if you have any questions about the site or information to add.

The Own Goal.  Soccer in New York City.  Welcome.
