It’s been a week to forget for New York City FC. After consecutive disappointing performances against Philadelphia, tonight’s game against Portland felt like an opportunity to turn things around. The Timbers began the night in last place in the Western Conference, fresh off a convincing defeat dealt out by Kaka and Orlando City FC last week. They also had to travel across the country for this game while NYCFC hasn’t had a real trip in nearly a month. Add it all up and this one felt like exactly the antidote New York needed. Going into the back-to-back games with Philadelphia – widely considered the worst team in MLS heading into last weekend – most agreed that New York had a good chance of picking up six points, four if you were being conservative. It was a night of firsts as New York City FC hosted the defending Eastern Conference Champions.  The first game at Yankee Stadium – a venue that will be the club’s home for at least one season – and also New York’s first-ever win.  Over 43,000 showed up and the hosts provided the requisite fireworks.  Here’s what caught my attention.
